CANADIAN NAVY MONUMENT

Design Intent
The monument celebrates the Navy with dignity and respect by creating a sense of place that is both conducive and appropriate to ceremony and contemplation
The site specific artwork articulates a ceremonial and processional language, and connects the symbolic and functional roles of the site.
By emphasizing the scenic waterfront location on the Ottawa River landscape we create a natural metaphor for the Navy monument, allowing an engaging relationship between the art, water, and the land.
The design language follows an approach of simple and dramatic elements that are expressive and reflective of the many forms associated with the naval experience. The angularity and scale recall naval facilities and vessels, provide a resonance with the Canadian War Museum and accommodate the spirit of commemoration and celebration within a prominent contemporary space.
